Where is My Life Going?

Hi Jay,

My life seems so out of order.  It is as if I don’t know where I fit.  Sometimes I feel like I am all over the place like it’s scattered.  I’ve been looking into doing a different career but nothing appealing catches my eye.  My current job isn’t the answer nor is it making ends meet.  I have been thinking about possibly doing real estate.  What should I do?

– Lost Without Direction

Hi Lost Without Direction,

You have the power to change your direction.  Sometimes it is not a matter of actually knowing what direction to take but a matter of movement.  What is it that you are good at?  Whatever that is, use as motivation to move towards doing something that will satisfy you.  If real-estate has come into your heart as a possible direction, then I encourage you to explore that direction.  It may not be the right direction but at least you can narrow some things down.  I believe that lack of movement is worse than no movement at all.  Why waste that time?  One thing I have learned about life is that it is full of uncertainty.  The two things we are certain of is that we will be born and we will die.  Everything else is a blank piece of paper that is just waiting for you to write the story. Take hold of your pen and write your story.

Pretend like today is the last day that you have to absolutely put in work and planning towards your future.  If today determined how you had to live out the rest of your life, what would you spend today doing?  I believe there is no such thing as a sure direction because there really are a myriad of ways to get to the same destination most times.  If you do not believe me, just pull up google maps and ask for directions to a location.  You will find the recommended route and you will also find alternative routes.  This means that even when you do not know the exact path to take, there are always paths to chose from.  Sometimes you just have to choose one and hit the ground running.

Hit the ground running! I love that!

I am guilty of standing still. Especially when I lack drive, direction, or motivation. However, I am reminded here that there are many paths to our destination. No matter the path, it is our responsibility to continuously move. As you said, a lack of moment is worse than no movement at all. As I embrace a new chapter of my life with school starting soon, I am encouraged to keep moving. Thanks for your insight and wisdom.

Sometimes hitting the ground running is all that you can do especially when you look behind yourself and you find that destiny is chasing you. A true destiny will chase you, you won’t chase it. It ends up forcing you to run forward. I’m glad that you found this insightful. Always remember to hit the ground running.
